Back property lines, dog runs, wooded lots and rental properties are all cases where paying for aluminum or vinyl buys appearance you will never see. Chain link encloses the space, lasts a long time and asks nothing of you afterward.

Black vinyl coated mesh costs a little more than galvanized and looks dramatically better, especially against grass and trees.

A sagging chain link fence is an installation problem, not a material problem. Terminal posts have to be set and braced to take the tension, the mesh has to be stretched properly, and tension bands and bars have to be spaced correctly. We install it so the mesh stays flat and the gates keep swinging square.

Plenty of properties get chain link on the back line where nobody sees it and a nicer material on the visible sides. That is often the smartest use of a fence budget, and we will lay out that plan with you on site.

Chain link gets dismissed as the cheap option, but it solves problems the other materials do not. It contains a dog without blocking airflow or light, it survives being run into, it does not rot or need coating, and on a long rear property line it costs a fraction of what privacy fencing would.

Black vinyl coated chain link is the version most homeowners are happier with. The dark coating makes the mesh visually recede, so the fence reads as a boundary rather than as a wall of shining metal, and the coating protects the wire underneath.

The failure points are almost always the terminal posts and the tension. Corner, end and gate posts carry the pull of the entire run, so they need to be heavier gauge, set deeper, and braced. Line posts do far less work.

Correct tension on the top rail and the fabric, tension bands spaced properly, and a bottom tension wire where animals are involved are what keep the mesh from sagging and pulling away from the posts. A chain link fence that looks tired after three years was almost always tensioned poorly on day one.
